Partners assessment meal

This lesson Bridget cooked for me! She cooked a chicken stir fry with Chinese five spice. While Bridget was cooking I cleaned up her dishes to help her finish on time. To avoid a big mess, as soon as Bridget used something I washed it and put it away. This worked well as the bench place stayed clear. When the meal was finished Bridget served it to me. I really enjoyed the dish! It was delicious. Even though the dish was yummy it was also a very healthy balanced meal. The chicken provided a good source of protein. The broccoli was a source of vegetables. The rice was carbohydrate. The oils and sauces were a little bit of fat. And lastly she served me a strawberry Danish for desert, this provided a source of fruit. Overall think Bridget was very good in the kitchen. She was organized on the day with notes to clearly state the order to complete her two dishes. Because she was so organize this helped her time management and she was able to take her time plateing up. The end dish looked amazing with coriander as a garnish and rice as a side. I really love the dish she cooked for me and it was. A great balanced meal!

Assessment cooking lesson

This lesson was my assessment cooking lesson. I cooked a chicken stir fry with coconut milk and broccoli. This lesson I was much more organized with my recipe And being early to class. First I grabbed all my ingredients from the front. I then got out a chopping board and started to chop the raw chicken into strips. After practicing chopping the chicken several times from when I practiced in last weeks and at home I found i was quicker at chopping it. After that I changed chopping boards and cut up the veggies. Lastly I prepared the coconut mixture. I then heated my wok and poured oil in. I added crushed garlic and onion and let it fry up on a high heat. When it was time to add the broccoli I realized that I did not get it. I asked the teacher and she gave it to me. Quickly I washed it and chopped it. I then added it in and fried it for a little longer. Next I transferred to another bowel. Then I Was ready to but THR chicken it. I added some more oil. When i Put the chicken in the pan was vey hot! It burnt the chicken a tiny bit but i quickly turned off the pan and moved all the chicken to the side. When It cooled down I put the chicken back on at a suitable temperature. It then cooked finely and i made sure it was cooked through the middle. I then added the coconut mixture in the wok with the chicken. Lastly I added the veggies and onion back in to the pan. I then put the lid on and let it simmer. The rice was cooking at the front so I went and got that and put it in a little bowel for my partner Bridget. After it finished simmering I put it in another bowel and presented it Nicely with a lovely green broccoli floret on top! I really enjoyed cooking as I wasn't in as much of a rush then last lesson. However the taste of the dish was different from last week. This is because last week I used red curry paste because there was only red to choose from and this week I used green curry paste because it is in the recipe. This gave the dish a completely different taste. However I honestly think that my partner enjoyed the taste of the dish better last week. Now I know that red curry paste better and can remember that for next time I cok the dish for my family. The meal is a very beneficial meal. It has protein from the chicken, a vegetable source from the broccoli, carbohydrates from the rice and a little bit of fat from the oils. Also the garlic and ginger in the dish is very good for your overall health. Overall I think I did a good job cooking the dish and it provided a healthy balanced meal for my partner.

Assessment Practice Lesson

This lesson we practiced our dish that we are cooking for assessment. I have chosen to cook a chicken stir fry. To be honest the practice cook did not go very well. I found that i was very pushed for time and next time know to get into it quicker. First i grabbed all of the ingredients that i could see but it was hard as there was many people running around and rushing too. I wasn't prepared on how to cook the rice. At home we have a rice cooker and obviously i didn't realize till i started to cook the rice that i didn't know how to cook the pasta in a saucepan. I decided to just cook it like i would with pasta. So i boiled the water with a bit of salt then added the rice. The rice actually turned out quite nice. Excepts next time i have to make sure to wash it more times to get rid of the starch as the rice was a big gooey. Another issue with the rice was that I didn't know how much water to cups of rice to put in. I google it and found that for every 1 cup of rice i needed 2 cups of water. Taking the time to google this a figure it our slowed me down heaps. Next time i will already know how much cups of rice and water to put in. I also didn't plan the amount of rice out correctly as when it was cooked there was way to much rice for two servings. Next time i will half the amount i put in. I think i put 4 cups of rice so i will bring it down to just 2. The cooking of the actual stir fry went quite well however next time i need to prepare the ingredients better so they are ready to throw in when they need to be. I found myself quickly chopping the broccoli while it was meant to be in. Next time i will know to have it already chopped and ready to go. The chicken cooked well. however the Wok i found was a bit hard to get the right temperature. At one point i had it sizzling to much and then it was hardly cooking. next time i will have to try to control the temperature and keep it consistent. Overall the only major problem i had was time and the cooking of the rice.

Beef broccoli with noodles

This lesson we made beef and broccoli with egg noodles. I honestly did not really like it however it did provide a good nutritious meal. The beef was a source of protein. The broccoli provided a good vegetable serve which was a source of fibre. The noodles were carbohydrates which give energy to the body.  overall the dish is a healthy meal however was not my favorite.

Chicken pasta

This lesson we made fresh tomato and chicken creamy pasta. The first thing we did was cook the pasta. We didn't know that we had to boil the water before we put the pasta in. So the pasta took twice as long as usual to cook. However a good lesson was learnt to always boil the water first. Next we halved the cherry tomatoes and cut the basil off the stem. Then we started the sauce. The chicken was added first and then once it was cooked through all the other ingredients were added. Lastly we put the sauce with the pasta and garnished the dish with basil leaves. This meal offered mostly all of the food groups. For veggies, tomato and basil. For dairy the cream. For protein the chicken. And the pasta gave us carbohydrates which will give us energy over time. I really enjoyed this dish and found it very tasty!

fried rice

this lesson we made fried rice. fried rice is a good quick meal because you just to add all the vegetables and rice together and then cook it up. it was a very good balanced meal because it had the main food groups. the rice was the cahborhydrates, the onion, sprouts and peas were all vegetables. the bacon and egg was a source of protein. and the penut oils added were a little source of fat. the only thing that was missing was a serve of fruit. however to finish this meal with some fresh fruit to clear your throat would be ideal! overall this dish was healthy and very tasty!

comparison of two desserts

This cooking lesson we made two different desserts. the healthy option and then the less healthy option. we made chocolate chip cookies for the less healthy option and raspberry pineapple parfait for the healthy option. the parfait was much quicker to make as the fruits were but into a cup and then yogurt was poured on top. however the cookies took longer to bake. the parfait left a refreshing taste in my mouth and the cookies were yum but made me feel a bit sick after i had a few. sometimes the healthier option is nicer to have then the less healthy option. this lesson i worked with bridget. we work really good together and made really good cookies that we cooked perfectly! overall i loved this lesson because we got to experiment desserts for a healthy and non healthy meal. we discovered that healthy is yummy too!

Lettuce wraps

This lesson in the kitchen we made lettuce wraps. These are also a very good example of a balanced meal as it contains the main food groups. The turkey meat had protein, the oil and vinegar were a small portion of fat and the lettuce, carrot and cucumber were akk vegetables. To be honest I did not like this meal however it provides a healthy balanced snack.

Potato jacks

This was our first lesson in the kitchen. We made potato jacks. This is a balanced meal because it has vegetables from the colsur and carrot it had carbohydrates from the potatos, it had fruit from the fruit juice in the culsur and lastly it had a little bit of fat from the mayonnaise. However the only thing this meal is lacking is protein as there is no type of meat. I enjoyed this meal it is quick, yum and healthy!
